The Philadelphia Eagles lost a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball during free agency. While they did add some key players, the team failed to find a true star safety to replace C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who returned to the Detroit Lions on a one-year deal. General manager Howie Roseman likely hoped to land a big name on the open market, but that never came to fruition.
Luckily, Roseman could atone for that massive miss by trading for All-Pro safety Justin Simmons.
Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon proposed one trade that makes sense for both the Eagles and the Denver Broncos.
“As long as Simmons is healthy and effective, he’d be a spectacular addition for a playoff hopeful like the Eagles. The Broncos would clear about $14.5 million in cap space and pick up a fourth-round selection,” Kenyon wrote.

Simmons would be the best player in Philadelphia’s secondary the moment he stepped on the field. The long-time Bronco has consistently ranked among the best at his position since entering the league and has more interceptions than any other player since 2016.
The Eagles secondary struggled in 2023, especially at safety. Sydney Brown showed promise before suffering a torn ACL, while Reed Blankenship is a solid contributor but doesn’t move the needle as a true difference-maker.
Justin Simmons would fix that problem in an instant. The safety is entering the final year of his deal and probably won’t be in Denver for much longer. The Broncos are clearly rebuilding after trading Jerry Jeudy and could continue to acquire future draft picks by dealing Simmons.
The Eagles are already one of the most talented teams in football. If they could land Simmons and pair him with the likes of Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Philadelphia would boast one of the best secondaries in the league.
