It’s not exactly a secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers want to add to their quarterback room.
The Steelers’ patience is being tested at the moment with Aaron Rodgers dragging his feet over his free-agent decision, putting Pittsburgh in quite the dilemma with the NFL draft just a couple of days away.
But Steelers general manager Omar Khan made it abundantly clear Tuesday that Pittsburgh aims to bring in two more quarterbacks to fill out its roster. Whether one of those will be Rodgers obviously remains to be seen.
“We discussed in Palm Beach a couple of weeks ago. We go to camp with four quarterbacks,” Khan told reporters Tuesday during Pittsburgh’s pre-draft news conference, per NFL.com’s Kevin Patra. “Right now, we have two on the roster. All options are on the table on how we acquire those last two. I assure you we’ll have four when we get to Latrobe (for training camp).”
The Steelers only have two quarterbacks on the depth chart at the moment in Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. Neither of them have shown in their careers that they are capable of being full-time starters, though.
With a decision from Rodgers hanging in the balance, the Steelers presumably will add a young signal-caller through the draft. The Steelers have been most linked to Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, but could also look to select Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart or Louisville’s Tyler Shough.
Either way, it seems more and more likely given what Khan said that the Steelers will use one of their six draft picks on a quarterback.
