“Lockdown Loading: KC Closing in on Veteran Safety Signing”
With L’Jarius Sneed gone and the secondary in need of reinforcement, the Kansas City Chiefs are making a move. According to league sources, KC is nearing a deal with Julian Blackmon, the former Indianapolis Colts safety, in a bid to solidify the backend of their defense.
Blackmon, who posted 4 interceptions and 8 pass deflections in 2023, brings experience, versatility, and playmaking ability to a secondary undergoing transition. Known for his ability to play both deep and in the box, he fits perfectly into Steve Spagnuolo’s complex, aggressive defensive schemes.

The potential addition of Blackmon would pair him with veteran Justin Reid, slot standout Trent McDuffie, and rising corners like Joshua Williams, possibly creating one of the most well-rounded secondaries in the AFC. It would also give the Chiefs flexibility in the 2025 NFL Draft, freeing them to address other needs.
Insiders say talks are “in the final stages,” with minor terms still being finalized. If completed, this signing would mark another savvy veteran pickup for GM Brett Veach and continue Kansas City’s trend of strategic roster upgrades without overspending.
The Chiefs are building for another title run — and locking down the secondary might be their next big move.
