Kansas City, MO – April 26, 2025 – Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach is setting his sights close to home in the 2025 NFL Draft, aiming to replace L’Jarius Sneed with a “Kansas kid,” sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. A homegrown cornerback could bring fresh energy to Arrowhead Stadium as the Chiefs chase another Lombardi Trophy.
The Chiefs traded Sneed to the Titans earlier this offseason, creating a pressing need at corner. While Trent McDuffie anchors one side, depth is thin, and Brett Veach’s plan: find a local standout ready to rise.
The target? A 6’1″, 190-pound shutdown specialist from Kansas State, who recorded 4 interceptions, 12 pass deflections, and 48 solo tackles in 2024. His blazing 4.39-second 40-yard dash and PFF coverage grade of 82.7 make him an ideal fit for Steve Spagnuolo’s aggressive defense.
“Kansas City tough. That’s what we build on,” Veach said.
The corner’s Top-30 visit to the Chiefs, confirmed by @MattVerderame, signals strong interest. Projected late Round 2 or early Round 3, he could be the perfect fit at pick No. 64.
Kansas City’s secondary is transitioning after the departures of Sneed and Mike Edwards. Drafting a “Kansas kid” would not only reinforce the defense but energize a fan base already fired up from another AFC Championship appearance.
“Homegrown grit belongs in Arrowhead,” coach Andy Reid said, embracing the idea.
With plenty of cap flexibility after structuring Mahomes’ and Chris Jones’ contracts, the Chiefs are positioned to reload for another title push.
“He brings juice, instincts, and toughness,” NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks said of the prospect.
A four-year, $8 million rookie deal keeps Kansas City agile for future signings — possibly adding another veteran edge rusher or wide receiver.
As the draft continues, Kansas City may also target depth at linebacker and tackle, but finding their hometown hero at corner could spark a new defensive era.
“Kansas kid for the Kingdom!” one fan tweeted, dreaming of the next great Arrowhead playmaker.
