New York Jets running back Breece Hall becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2026, which leaves the door open for a potential trade to a new team as a contract year approaches.
The Jets overhauled their entire team this offseason, getting a new general manager, a new head coach, and swapping Aaron Rodgers out for Justin Fields.
This is a complete culture shift and even though he’s an extremely talented running back, there’s a real chance that Hall is on a different team in 2026.
Here’s why the Kansas City Chiefs are the best potential trade partner for Breece Hall this season.

- 2022 Stats: 7 Games, 463 rushing yards, 5.8 yards per attempt, 218 receiving yards, 5 touchdowns
Breece entered the league as one of the most hyped-up running backs after a phenomenal college career. He had 1,572 rushing yards and 1,464 in his final two collegiate seasons with Iowa State.
After tearing his ACL in his rookie season, he’s had back-to-back healthy seasons, but hasn’t crossed over 1,000 rushing yards. For a running back with absurd talent, this is very disappointing. It’s very similar to how Garrett Wilson looked as well.
In 2024 Hall’s workload was relatively light because the Jets used a rotation of their running backs with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Breece averaged only 12 rushing attempts per game and only eclipsed 100 yards once as a rusher this season.
Why the Kansas City Chiefs?
First off, Hall grew up two and a half hours away from Kansas City in Omaha, Nebraska, and went to school at Iowa State, which is around a three-hour drive from KC.
Looking at the football side of things, the Chiefs have always allocated resources to attacking the running back position such as spending a first-round pick on Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Kansas City has a nice running back room with Isiah Pacheco, Carson Steele, and Kareem Hunt, but Steele is the only one under contract for 2026.
When you look at the New York Jets situation, it isn’t a smart proposition for them to pay Breece Hall a multi-year contract when they have Isaiah Davis and Braelon Allen waiting in the wings. The smart move is to move off of Hall while his value is still high, and potentially get a 3rd-round pick in return.
