Steelers Sign Three New Players, 2 RB, 1 OT

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued to shape their offseason roster this week, officially signing three players to bolster depth ahead of training camp: running backs Trey Sermon and Max Hurleman, along with offensive tackle Gareth Warren.

While the signings were finalized last week, it wasn’t until Tuesday that the players were officially outfitted with their new jersey numbers — a small but meaningful step as the team gears up for a competitive summer.

  • Trey Sermon will wear No. 27

  • Max Hurleman will wear No. 34

  • Gareth Warren will wear No. 69

The man behind the numbers? Equipment manager Adam Regan, who handled the uniform assignments as part of Pittsburgh’s ongoing offseason logistics.

Trey Sermon Returns To Practice

🏈 A mix of veteran experience and fresh energy

Among the trio, Sermon, 26, is the lone NFL veteran. A former third-round pick out of Ohio State, Sermon has had stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Indianapolis Colts, though injuries and depth chart congestion have limited his on-field opportunities. Now, with the Steelers, he sees a chance for resurgence.

NFL rule change proves the Steelers may have snagged an absolute steal after signing UDFA tryout following rookie minicamp

“This is a system that values physicality and patience. I think I fit right in,” Sermon said during an informal workout.

In contrast, both Hurleman (23) and Warren (21) are entering training camp as rookie free agents. While relatively unknown to casual fans, the Steelers have a long history of developing undrafted players into key contributors — a legacy that these two young prospects are hoping to continue.

Hurleman, a compact and versatile back out of a Division II program, turned heads with his burst and balance at a recent minicamp tryout. Warren, a raw but physically gifted tackle, impressed scouts with his size, footwork, and aggression in blocking drills.

🔍 What this means for the Steelers

With training camp on the horizon, these additions reflect Pittsburgh’s desire to foster competition at every level — especially at running back, where depth behind Isiah Pacheco is still fluid.

And while roster spots aren’t guaranteed, one thing is clear: these three now have numbers, helmets, and a shot. The rest is up to them.
