In a game that instantly entered the College World Series history books, Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood delivered a performance so dominant it left even NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes in awe. Wood’s no-hitter not only saved Arkansas from elimination — it reminded the sports world what greatness looks like under pressure.

Facing off against Murray State in an elimination game, Gage Wood was nothing short of spectacular. The right-hander tossed a complete-game no-hitter, striking out an eye-popping 19 batters — the most in Men’s College World Series history.
Wood carried a perfect game into the eighth inning until a hit-by-pitch ended the bid. But he remained unshaken, finishing the game with 119 pitches, including 83 strikes, and securing a 3–0 victory for the Razorbacks.
His no-hitter was just the third in College World Series history, and the first since 1960, putting him in one of the most exclusive clubs in college baseball lore.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — a former high school baseball star and part-owner of the Kansas City Royals — quickly took to social media to express his amazement. Mahomes joined the chorus of fans and athletes stunned by Wood’s brilliance.
It’s not every day a college pitcher gets the attention of an NFL MVP, but Wood’s command, poise, and strikeout dominance made it impossible to ignore.
Mahomes was in attendance for some of his alma mater Texas Tech’s run in the Women’s College World Series earlier this month, and also made sure to get to Kauffman Stadium to see the major league debut of Kansas City Royals’ prospect Jac Caglianone just last week.
With his minority ownership in the Royals, Mahomes could easily advocate for Wood if the standout Razorbacks pitcher decides to make the leap to the majors.
