Bills Rookie TE on Josh Allen Connection: ‘We’re Building Something Dangerous’

Allen to Diggs: Bills' duo provides offense a needed jolt | The Seattle Times

Training camp in Buffalo is buzzing as one rookie tight end begins to carve out his place within a crowded depth chart. The battle for roster spots has pushed every newcomer to raise their game.

Observers at camp have taken notice of a physical tight end who hails from Roswell, Georgia, and made his mark at Georgia Tech. Coaches praise his blocking in two-tight end sets and his willingness to grind for every snap.

Stepping into the NFL as a fifth-round pick, the young tight end has wasted no time making his presence felt in drills and scrimmages. But the biggest storyline has been the budding partnership with one of the league’s elite quarterbacks.

“I knew playing with Josh Allen would be special — but I didn’t think we’d click this fast. The chemistry’s real, the ball comes out clean, and every rep feels like we’re building something dangerous,” said Jackson Hawes, beaming after another strong practice.

Hawes logged 45 catches, 512 yards, and five touchdowns in 36 college games, showing off reliable hands and a knack for tough blocks. Now, as Buffalo’s TE3 behind Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, he’s working to become a trusted depth option.

Signed to a four-year, $4.7 million rookie deal, Hawes is projected to contribute mainly on special teams and in heavy run formations. Still, coaches see potential for 10 catches and 100 yards if given the chance this season.

His primary competition comes from undrafted free agent Zach Davidson, so improving his route-running and consistency is key. So far, every sign points to rapid development and a willingness to embrace coaching.

For a team hungry to maximize every weapon around Josh Allen, Hawes’ progress is a welcome storyline. If the connection continues to grow, Bills fans may soon witness the rise of a new red zone threat.
