Ex-Bills Star Clears the Way for Buffalo Return with $5M Contract After Major Life Change

Buffalo’s preseason has been filled with optimism, but also unease about depth at wide receiver. With injuries looming as a constant threat, the franchise finds itself considering familiar names who once carried the offense’s burden.

The Bills have leaned heavily on emerging targets like Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer, but questions remain about who can truly command attention opposite Stefon Diggs’ departure. A reliable veteran presence could tilt the balance in crunch moments.

That’s where Amari Cooper resurfaces. After a brief but memorable 2024 stint in Buffalo, the former All-Pro has reportedly expressed willingness to return on a one-year, $5 million contract following a major personal life change.

“I’ve reset my priorities and I know where I belong. Buffalo gave me a chance when I needed it most, and I’m ready to give everything back if they open the door,” Cooper said.

His previous run in Orchard Park included 20 receptions for 297 yards and two touchdowns across eight games. A Week 7 debut touchdown against Tennessee and a career milestone 10,000th receiving yard versus the Jets remain signature highlights.

Even when injuries slowed him down — playing through a wrist brace against Kansas City, or missing games late for family reasons — Cooper’s toughness and professionalism earned respect in a locker room hungry for consistency.

Now a free agent after his 2024 contract expired, Cooper’s return would offer quarterback Josh Allen another trusted option in high-pressure situations. His familiarity with the scheme shortens the learning curve, a valuable edge this late in preseason.

For Buffalo, the decision hangs on balancing salary commitments and receiver depth. But with a proven veteran offering himself at a discount, the timing feels right. The Bills’ passing attack may yet gain back its missing piece.
