The Buffalo Bills are back in action today, looking to build on last week’s wild 41-40 comeback win over the Ravens. This time, they’re on the road, taking on a familiar AFC East foe in the New York Jets. And if history tells us anything, these matchups are rarely easy.
Don’t let the Jets’ 0-1 record fool you. They pushed the Steelers to the brink last week in a 34-32 loss and showed they’re not going down quietly. With a hungry defense and a chip on their shoulder, they’ll be looking to spoil the Bills’ perfect start and notch their first win of the season.
As for Buffalo, they’ll be without a key piece up front. Defensive tackle Ed Oliver has been ruled out after suffering a foot injury earlier in the week.
He’s been seen in a walking boot since, and his absence leaves a noticeable gap in the interior of the defensive line. That means the pressure now shifts to guys like T.J.
Sanders and Deone Walker to step up and clog the middle against a Jets offense that will likely lean on Breece Hall and the ground game.
There is some good news for the Bills’ defense, though. Cornerback Tre’Davious White is set to return after missing Week 1 with a knee injury sustained during training camp.
His presence brings a much-needed boost to a secondary that will be without Taron Johnson and Jordan Hancock. White’s return doesn’t fix everything, but it does give the Bills a stabilizing force on the back end.
The inactives list for Buffalo is a mixed bag. Wide receiver Curtis Samuel will miss his second straight game, which raises some concern about how long he might be sidelined.
On the defensive side, Landon Jackson is inactive again, which is a bit of a surprise considering the team’s need for depth on the edge. But aside from Oliver, the Bills are relatively intact and ready to go.
With kickoff set for 1 p.m. in New Jersey, all eyes will be on how Buffalo responds to the adversity of missing key starters and whether the defense can hold strong against a Jets team that’s desperate to avoid an 0-2 start. The Bills’ offense, led by Josh Allen, will look to keep rolling after last week’s fireworks. But as always in division games, expect a battle.
This one has all the makings of a gritty, hard-fought AFC East clash. Let’s see if Buffalo can keep the momentum going and move to 2-0.
