Las Vegas, NV – April 14, 2025, 08:20 AM PDT
The Las Vegas Raiders, facing quarterback uncertainty after Aidan O’Connell suffered a preseason ACL injury, are exploring a surprising trade: acquiring Sean Clifford, the Green Bay Packers’ backup QB.
Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has reportedly been in talks with special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, who spent the 2021 season as interim head coach of the Raiders and is currently with the Packers. According to insiders, Bisaccia has strongly endorsed Clifford as a “high-character leader” who knows how to manage a locker room under pressure.
Clifford, a fifth-round pick in 2023 out of Penn State, made headlines in the 2024 preseason with his poise and command of the huddle. He threw for 289 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions, earning praise from coaches and fans alike. While Jordan Love is clearly the starter in Green Bay, Clifford remains an intriguing option for a team like Las Vegas.
The Raiders, who currently have only veteran backup Brian Hoyer and undrafted rookie Carson Strong on the depth chart, are in need of a stable QB2 with upside. According to league sources, they’ve offered a 2026 fifth-round pick in exchange for Clifford.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst is said to be considering the offer but weighing it against the risk of leaving the QB room too thin behind Jordan Love. With Green Bay pushing for a deep playoff run, quarterback depth remains a quiet but crucial concern.
Fan reactions in Green Bay have been mixed.
“Sean’s got leadership and upside—keep him,” one fan wrote on X.
Another responded, “If the Raiders are offering draft capital, take it. We need help on defense.”
With the 2025 NFL Draft fast approaching, the Raiders are expected to move quickly. Bisaccia’s influence, combined with Clifford’s upside and familiarity with pro-style systems, could seal the deal in the coming days.
