Cowboys Eyeing Surprise Reunion with Former All-Pro CB Amid Injury Uncertainty

Frisco, TX – April 15, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly exploring a potential reunion with former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs, who is still recovering from a devastating ACL tear and whose long-term status with the team remains clouded in uncertainty.

Diggs, 26, hasn’t played since Week 3 of the 2023 season, and while he remains under contract, Cowboys front office had considered releasing or restructuring his deal after acquiring CB Jaylon Johnson in free agency.

But with DaRon Bland suffering a high ankle sprain in camp and Jourdan Lewis struggling to stay healthy, sources close to the team say Jerry Jones is “warming up” to the idea of bringing Diggs back into the fold — in a limited, incentive-based role.

“If he’s healthy enough to play 60% of snaps, you bring him back. That’s Diggs,” one scout told FanHub.

📉 From Shutdown Corner to Question Mark

In his breakout 2021 season, Diggs led the NFL with 11 interceptions, earning First-Team All-Pro honors. But critics cited inconsistency in coverage, and injuries derailed his rise.

Since his injury, Cowboys have shifted defensive identity, favoring more zone under DC Mike Zimmer. Diggs thrived in man schemes — raising questions about his fit.

💰 Contract & Cap Factor

Diggs is currently on a 5-year, $97 million extension signed in 2023, but only $10 million is guaranteed post-2025. The Cowboys could rework the deal to convert him into a low-risk CB2 or slot option, especially if the team misses out on cornerback targets in the draft.

“Don’t be surprised if Trevon walks back through that star-emblazoned tunnel — but this time with a chip on his shoulder.”

🧩 A Calculated Gamble

With Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence anchoring the front, a healthy Diggs could complete one of the league’s most dangerous defenses — if he’s willing to bet on himself.

“It’s not about headlines. It’s about redemption,” one Cowboys assistant said anonymously.

A Diggs return? That’s the kind of wild-card move Jerry Jones lives for.
