Howie Roseman Builds Unstoppable Pass-Catching Trio with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Michigan Star

Thanks to a rough start to the offseason that’s featured more net losses than gains in free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2025 NFL Draft with several thin position groups—especially on defense.

However, the offense remains a strength, largely due to GM Howie Roseman’s commitment to keeping his top weapons locked in. But one wildcard looms large: the tight end spot. Dallas Goedert is reportedly on the trade block, and the Eagles’ front office has done little to shut down those rumors.

When asked recently whether Goedert’s status would affect their draft plans, Roseman replied bluntly:

“It doesn’t really affect us.”

Roseman emphasized the team’s approach: build depth year-round, never stop adding.

“Even after the draft, there will be areas where we’ll say, ‘It’d be great to add a player here.’”

Not exactly a vote of confidence for Goedert, and analysts believe Philly is poised to move on. If so, it could happen on Draft weekend, possibly for a Day 3 pick.

🏈 The Michigan Solution: Colston Loveland at Pick No. 32?

Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News believes the Eagles may strike gold late in Round 1. In his three-round mock, he has Michigan tight end Colston Loveland landing in Philly at No. 32:

“The Eagles need to think about the future of tight end beyond Dallas Goedert. Loveland would be a nice third target to groom between A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.”

This would create one of the most dangerous pass-catching trios in the NFL — blending Loveland’s size (6’5″, 245 lbs), route running, and hands with the elite speed and strength of Brown and Smith.

Loveland’s 2024 stats weren’t eye-popping (582 yards, 5 TDs), but scouts love his receiver-like skillset, and Michigan’s offense ranked 131st in passing — hardly ideal conditions for production.

🧠 Other Draft Possibilities Still on the Board

Of course, the Eagles have pressing defensive needs, too. Players like:

  • Malaki Starks (S – Georgia)

  • Abdul Carter (EDGE – Penn State)

  • Or even a replacement for Josh Sweat or Milton Williams

…could be considered. Offensive guard is also a need after losing Mekhi Becton to the Chargers in free agency.

The Eagles did sign Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson at TE, but if Goedert is truly on his way out, Loveland could be the long-term answer — and a perfect fit in an evolving Philly offense.

If he’s on the board at pick 32, don’t be surprised if Howie pulls the trigger and forms an unstoppable trio for Jalen Hurts. Brown. Smith. Loveland.
You’ve been warned.
