Packers Release Two Rookies for Unprofessional Conduct and Not Fitting Team Culture

Packers Coach Matt LaFleur Gives Final Thoughts On The 2024 Season

Training camp in Green Bay has always set a high bar for young players hoping to earn their spot. This week, the Packers made headlines after releasing two undrafted rookies for falling short of team standards.

The move comes as the coaching staff continues to emphasize discipline, accountability, and buy-in as non-negotiables for every member of the roster. Competition remains fierce, but the message is clear: culture comes before depth.

Among those let go was Johnathan Baldwin, a versatile defensive back from UNLV who impressed with 211 career tackles and six interceptions across 44 college games. He was initially viewed as a potential slot corner or safety.

Brant Banks, an offensive lineman out of Rice, was also released. Banks brought rare size and experience with 25 starts over 51 games, but head coach Matt LaFleur made it clear: “Talent matters, but mindset matters more. We can teach the skills, but here in Green Bay, the right attitude is a must. If you don’t have it, you don’t fit this team.

The Problem With Matt LaFleur's Comments On Jordan Love - Zone Coverage

Baldwin had flashed speed in early drills, earning praise from fans on social media for his 4.50-second forty, while Banks was seen as a developmental backup on a deep O-line unit.

However, both rookies reportedly struggled with consistency and failed to fully embrace the demanding locker room ethos Green Bay expects from every player. Missed meetings and lapses in effort sealed their fate.

The decision sparked debate among Packers faithful, with some lamenting the loss of developmental potential and others applauding LaFleur’s unwavering commitment to culture.

As training camp rolls on, the Packers’ approach remains steadfast: talent is just the beginning. In Green Bay, attitude and professionalism are what secure a future in the green and gold.
