LOS ANGELES — Loni Anderson, the iconic “WKRP in Cincinnati” actress and lifelong Kansas City Chiefs superfan, has passed away at age 79, leaving Chiefs Kingdom mourning not only her loss but also the heartbreaking circumstances.
Anderson, who had become increasingly frail in recent months, insisted on attending Chiefs training camp in late July despite warnings from her doctors and family. Her devotion to the team was so deep that she braved the heat and crowds just to see her beloved Chiefs up close one last time.
Sadly, her health worsened after the camp visit. Surrounded by family, she passed away in Los Angeles on August 3, 2025. “We are devastated to share the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother,” her family announced, describing her final days as a testament to her spirit and passion.
Even in her seventies, Anderson was famous for cheering in person, rain or shine. “The Chiefs’ grit stole my heart,” she often said, celebrating every Kansas City triumph as if it were her own. Her legendary presence at Arrowhead and at training camps inspired generations of fans.

Her willingness to risk her health for one more Chiefs memory has touched the fanbase deeply. Many have shared how her final act of loyalty, attending training camp against all odds, captured the very soul of Chiefs Nation — loving fiercely, no matter the cost.
As a trailblazer in both Hollywood and the NFL fan community, Loni Anderson’s passion shone bright. “My grandkids will know I was a sex symbol and a diehard fan!” she once joked, her laughter contagious among friends and fans.
Manager Steve Sauer called her “a class act—beautiful, talented, and a Chiefs diehard to the end.” Her death, linked to her devotion for her team, makes the loss even more poignant for Chiefs supporters everywhere.
Private services at Hollywood Forever Cemetery will be followed by a Chiefs-themed Celebration of Life. As Chiefs Kingdom grieves, Anderson’s memory and her unwavering love for the red and gold live on. Stay tuned to ESPN for updates.
