Chiefs Rookie DT-Lott Stuns Front Office by Rejecting Easier IR Deal

Omarr Norman-Lott remains unsigned during Kansas City Chiefs minicamp
Kansas City, MO — September 24, 2025

In a move that’s rattled expectations, Kansas City Chiefs rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott declined an Injured Reserve (IR) deal, opting instead to take a reduced guaranteed amount just so he can stay off IR and keep fighting for a roster spot. After suffering a hamstring injury in the preseason, Norman-Lott’s decision underscores his confidence and hunger to make an impact on a defense stacked with veteran talent.

“I didn’t battle all my life just to watch from the sideline,” Norman-Lott said in a firm statement. “I came here to compete. If I have to eat some money to do it, I will — because proving I belong means more than the dollars.”

His stance turned heads within the organization and among fans, many of whom saw in him the same toughness and resolve that have defined the Chiefs’ culture.

Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2025 NFL Draft from Tennessee Wikipedia+2SI+2, Norman-Lott entered training camp as a promising interior disruptor. But the preseason injury had many anticipating an IR placement — until he chose the harder route.

The gamble is high. Taking IR would have guaranteed his salary while recovering, but it would also stall his development and reduce exposure to reps. By refusing IR, Norman-Lott is betting on himself — pushing to compete beside veteran linemen like Chris Jones, Mike Pennel, and others.

Teammates have voiced support. Veteran defensive staff has praised his resolve, and insiders say his choice has already earned him respect in the locker room.

For the Chiefs, a franchise always looking to reload, Norman-Lott’s decision embodies the grit and accountability Andy Reid and the front office demand. Whether he becomes a regular contributor this season is uncertain — but his refusal to bow out quietly has already made a statement.
