Ex-Falcons Star Opens Door to Green Bay With $3M Offer Following Packers’ Preseason

Green Bay has endured a rollercoaster preseason, opening with a flat performance against the Jets before finding life in a comeback win versus the Colts. The highs and lows have left lingering questions heading into the final exhibition.

Against New York, the Packers were outclassed on both sides of the ball, gaining just 188 total yards while missing 17 tackles. Injuries to key depth players only made matters worse, exposing roster weaknesses before halftime.

Momentum shifted the following week when Green Bay’s running game exploded for 247 yards and its defense piled up 10 sacks. Still, the victory was blemished by 11 penalties and more injuries across an already stretched depth chart.

Amid that backdrop, former Falcons safety Justin Simmons has surfaced as a potential stabilizer. Reports indicate he is willing to join Green Bay on a $3 million offer, seeing an opportunity to blend youth with veteran leadership.

“The Packers have a talented rookie class, but they still need experience to push this team further. I know I can help fix that with my years of experience and love for this game. Green Bay deserves more — give me the chance, and I’ll bring that fire to Green Bay.”

His words arrive at a critical moment. With Jaylon Johnson still rehabbing and Kyler Gordon nursing a hamstring, Simmons could provide immediate steadiness to a defensive backfield facing questions of health, consistency, and depth.

The timing is significant, as Green Bay prepares for its preseason finale against the Seahawks on August 23. That game will determine roster spots, but also spotlight just how urgent the need for veteran reinforcements might be.

Ultimately, the Packers’ front office must decide whether to double down on development or invest in proven experience. Simmons’ candidacy offers an intriguing middle ground, a veteran presence who believes he can raise Green Bay’s ceiling in 2025.
