He may not have shown up on the stat sheet in Week 2, but Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden has already captured the faith of the Packers faithful.
Against the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football, Golden flashed his blazing speed and route-running ability, even beating defenders for what could have been two highlight-reel plays. One was broken up in the end zone, while the other slipped just out of reach on a deep ball from Jordan Love. Officially, Golden finished with zero catches but added two rushing attempts for 15 yards.
That didn’t stop the rookie from celebrating the team’s 2-0 start, posting “2-0 🧀” on X after the win. Within minutes, fans flooded his mentions with encouragement: “Be patient man, your time will come”, “Justin Jefferson didn’t break out until Week 3 his rookie year”, and “Can’t wait for your breakout game big bro.”
Golden, drafted in the first round out of Texas, has just two receptions for 16 yards through two games. But the optimism surrounding him is palpable, with many believing it’s only a matter of time before his name is called on a big play.
