Could L’Jarius Sneed be headed home?
The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly eyeing a stunning reunion with their former star cornerback, who is currently entangled in a legal dispute with the Tennessee Titans, sources told ESPN on Monday. The speculation surfaced during the NFL Annual Meeting, stirring excitement among Chiefs fans about a possible return for Sneed following a rocky 2024 campaign.
Sneed, a 2020 fourth-round pick, was a cornerstone for the Chiefs — tallying 10 interceptions, 40 pass deflections, and earning two Super Bowl rings during his four seasons in Kansas City. He was traded to Tennessee last March for a 2025 third-round pick and signed a four-year, $76 million deal.
But his stint with the Titans quickly turned sour: just five games played, no pass breakups, and a quad injury sidelined him by November.
To make matters worse, Sneed is facing a Texas lawsuit alleging that he or an associate fired a gun at a car dealership in December 2024. No one was injured, but an assault charge is pending, and Titans management is reportedly considering releasing him, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
“Chiefs sniffing around Sneed again? Wild!” Breer commented.
GM Brett Veach, previously cautious about Sneed’s knee injury, is reportedly open to the idea if Sneed becomes a free agent.
“KC loved him—they’d consider it,” Breer added.
With Rashee Rice also facing a potential suspension, and the Chiefs already navigating off-field controversies, Veach’s proven ability to manage locker-room tension makes this possibility even more feasible.
“Sneed back? Kingdom’s defense gets NASTY!” a fan exclaimed on X.
Sneed’s 2023 campaign — where he didn’t allow a single touchdown in coverage — gave way to an inconsistent 2024. But at 28 years old, Sneed is still in his prime, though a potential league suspension hangs over his head.
The Chiefs’ current CB corps — Trent McDuffie, Kristian Fulton, and Joshua Williams — is strong, but Sneed’s aggressive man-to-man skills would add a unique edge to Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive playbook.
Meanwhile, Titans GM Mike Borgonzi, a former Chiefs staffer, faces a tough decision. Cutting Sneed after just one year could save money but would further damage a team that collapsed to a 3-14 record.
Chiefs fans are buzzing online: could Veach land him back on a bargain?
A reunion isn’t guaranteed — legal trouble and scheme fit remain concerns — but Sneed in red again? That’s a twist Chiefs Kingdom would welcome with open arms.
