Foxborough, MA – April 15, 2025
Defensive tackle Christian Barmore is reportedly growing frustrated with the New England Patriots, as contract talks have stalled just months before he hits free agency — and with little indication from the team about his long-term role in the Mike Vrabel era.
Sources close to Barmore say the 24-year-old has reached out multiple times this offseason to start extension talks but has received “radio silence” from the front office. The lack of communication has sparked internal tension and could lead to trade discussions if no clarity emerges before the 2025 NFL Draft.
“Barmore doesn’t want drama,” one source said.
“But he’s earned the right to know if he’s part of the future or not.”
📊 Breakout Year, Uncertain Future
Barmore is coming off his best season in New England:
-
6.5 sacks,
-
12 TFLs (tackles for loss),
-
21 QB pressures,
-
41 solo tackles in just 68% of snaps.
Despite that, New England has not offered an extension, nor communicated clear plans. Barmore, drafted in the 2nd round of 2021, is entering the final year of his rookie deal worth $2.7M.
“You can’t say you’re building a defense and then ignore your best interior lineman,” one AFC exec told FanHub.
🤐 Vrabel’s Rebuild Creating Uncertainty
With new head coach Mike Vrabel implementing structural changes, veterans like Barmore are feeling left in the dark. Vrabel is reportedly more focused on the secondary and linebacker core, including 2024 pick Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
If Patriots receive a Day 2 draft pick offer, sources say the team could “seriously entertain a deal.”
🧩 Next Steps: Extension or Exit
-
If extended, Barmore could anchor the Patriots’ front seven for years.
-
If ignored, the risk is losing him for nothing in 2026 — or dealing with a disgruntled tone-setter.
“I want to win. I want to be great. But I also want to be respected,” Barmore reportedly told teammates during workouts.
“Barmore’s silence isn’t weakness — it’s patience running out.”
