Cowboys Rookie Jaydon Blue Suffers Ankle Sprain, Eyes Return for Season Opener vs. Eagles
August 24 – Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue is racing against time to be ready for the team’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4, after sustaining a low-ankle sprain in Friday’s preseason game, according to ESPN.
Blue, 21, delivered a promising performance in the Cowboys’ 31-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, logging nine carries for 25 yards and one touchdown before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with the injury. It’s the second ankle issue for the fifth-round draft pick this month, after he also tweaked it during practice earlier in August.
The former Texas Longhorns standout showcased his talent at the college level, racking up 1,161 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns across three seasons. In 2024 alone, he rushed for 730 yards at 5.4 yards per carry with eight scores, while adding 368 receiving yards and six more touchdowns.

For the Cowboys, Blue’s recovery will be crucial as the team continues to sort out its running back rotation heading into Week 1. If healthy, he could emerge as a key weapon in the highly anticipated divisional clash against the Eagles.
