The summer of 2025 could define the remainder of Micah Parsons’ NFL career.

Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowler now entering his prime years, has openly criticized the organization and demanded a trade on August 1 with a blunt message: “I no longer want to be here.” Three weeks later, he remains on the roster, but NFL insider Dan Graziano revealed to talkSPORT that the relationship between Parsons and Jones has deteriorated further.
In a candid YouTube interview with Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, Jones disclosed how negotiations broke down. According to Jones, Parsons’ agent flatly rejected contract details, fueling tensions. “For some reason, Jerry Jones seems very angry,” Graziano noted.
Jones reportedly believed a deal was close back in March, but felt betrayed when Parsons deferred to his agent — a move most players would normally make.
Meanwhile, Dallas’ defense ranked near the bottom of the league last season, making Parsons’ presence even more critical for new head coach Brian Schottenheimer after a disappointing 7-10 finish that ended Mike McCarthy’s tenure.
Despite the rift, Jones insists Parsons won’t be traded. The team can keep him under contract through 2025 and potentially use the franchise tag for 2026 and 2027. However, insiders suggest that if Parsons is willing to sit out regular season games, he could gain leverage and force Dallas’ hand in negotiations.
The Cowboys drafted Parsons 12th overall in 2021, and he has since become one of the league’s most versatile defenders. Whether he stays in Dallas with a record-breaking $200 million extension or pushes his way out remains uncertain just two weeks before the season opener against the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles.
For now, the Cowboys are standing firm. But the only real leverage Parsons has left is to sit out games — a decision that could permanently fracture his relationship with Jerry Jones and reshape his career.
