DK Metcalf Talks Steelers, Rodgers, and a Possible New Home?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy this offseason, and while signing Aaron Rodgers was undoubtedly their biggest move over the past few months, their blockbuster trade for DK Metcalf isn’t very far behind.

After requesting a trade off of the Seattle Seahawks, Metcalf ended up landing with the Steelers in a huge deal. Pittsburgh also landed a 2025 sixth-round pick, while giving up a second and seventh round pick in the 2025 draft as part of the trade. Then, they promptly signed their new star pass catcher to a five-year, $150 million contract extension.

There are high hopes for Metcalf heading into the new season, and it wasn’t much that his first time suiting up for Pittsburgh was one of the biggest storylines of mandatory minicamp. With minicamp wrapping up on Thursday, Metcalf sent a quick message to his new team’s fan base that will surely get them fired up.

“Just got done with minicamp. Looking forward to training camp with the Steelers nation. But peace out, looking forward to seeing everybody,” DK Metcalf said in a video posted on the Steelers official X account.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Metcalf experienced a down year of sorts in 2024. While his numbers are nothing to scoff at (66 receptions, 992 yards, five touchdowns), he took a backseat to Jaxon Smith-Njigba on offense as the season went on.

With Pittsburgh trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, there’s no doubt who the No. 1 wideout is on the Steelers anymore. Behind DK Metcalf on the depth chart is the veteran Robert Woods, speedster Calvin Austin III and the former Michigan Wolverine Roman Wilson, who the team is reportedly quite high on.

With mandatory minicamp in the rearview mirror now, the team will get to enjoy some time off before training camp. When they return to action for the start of training camp on July 23, though, you can bet fans will be curious to see how the Rodgers-to-Metcalf connection looks ahead of their first season together.
