Philadelphia, PA – April 27, 2025
After a 2024 season marred by defensive lapses, the Philadelphia Eagles are eyeing an aggressive move to fortify their secondary. According to insiders at ESPN, the Eagles are exploring a trade with the San Francisco 49ers to acquire promising young safety Ji’Ayir Brown, a move designed to patch holes left by the departures of Darius Slay and instability at the back end.
Sources pitch a deal where the Eagles would send a 2025 fourth-round pick (No. 120 overall) to San Francisco in exchange for Ji’Ayir Brown and a 2025 fifth-rounder (No. 152). The 49ers, deep at defensive back after drafting multiple prospects, could be willing to part ways with Brown for added draft capital.
Brown, a third-round pick in 2023 out of Penn State, impressed with 38 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble during limited snaps in 2024, earning a PFF coverage grade of 72.1. At 5-foot-11, 203 pounds, with 4.45 speed, Brown fits perfectly into Vic Fangio’s zone-heavy, opportunistic scheme.
“Ji’Ayir brings instincts, ball skills, and toughness,” a league scout told The Athletic. “He just needs snaps.”
The Eagles, armed with six Day 3 picks, have flexibility to maneuver without sacrificing premium assets. With Kevin Byard and Reed Blankenship as veteran anchors, Brown would be a high-upside rotational piece ready to explode with the right opportunity.
“Building depth is how you survive January football,” Eagles GM Howie Roseman noted last month.
After collapsing late in 2024, Philadelphia is determined to reload and make a serious Super Bowl charge. Adding a hungry, ascending talent like Brown — at a bargain price — could be the sneaky move that pays off big when it matters most.
Stay tuned: Eagles aren’t done yet.
