Eagles’ Defense Superstar Cleared to Return to Football Activities as OTAs Approach

Philadelphia Eagles star linebacker Nakobe Dean has been fully cleared to resume football activities, sources told ESPN. The dynamic defender, speaking to reporters for the first time since his season-ending ankle injury in 2024, shared his uncontainable excitement about rejoining his teammates.

Dean suffered a severe ankle sprain and ligament damage in Week 6 against the Giants, a collision during a goal-line stand that sidelined him for the remainder of the 2024 season. Surgery in November 2024 revealed less damage than expected, setting a recovery timeline of approximately seven months.

Report: Nakobe Dean Diagnosed With Injury That May Need Surgery

“I’m back with my squad, feeling like myself again,” Dean said Thursday. “This is the most hyped I’ve been for OTAs. After missing most of last year, I’m ready to dominate.” He reported no setbacks in his intensive rehab, which included aquatic therapy and strength training.

Before the injury, Dean was a rising star on the Eagles’ defense, leading the team with 92 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 interceptions through six games in 2024. His absence was felt, though the Eagles’ depth at linebacker helped them secure the Super Bowl LIX title.

Dean’s recovery tested his mental toughness. “Watching the team succeed without me was hard,” he admitted. “I leaned on my family and trainers to stay focused.” His workout videos on X, showcasing explosive agility drills, sparked excitement among Eagles Nation.

His return strengthens a defense featuring Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and young EDGE rushers like Nolan Smith. “Nakobe’s a difference-maker,” coach Nick Sirianni said. “He’s tackling, covering, looking sharp.” Dean aims to reclaim his role as a defensive leader, building on his breakout 2024 season.

The Eagles, who defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, face roster challenges, including potential trades of veterans like Bryce Huff. Still, Dean’s clearance boosts morale as they gear up for their opener against the Cowboys on September 4.

At 25, Dean believes his prime is ahead. “I’m just getting started,” he said. “I’m chasing greatness in 2025.” With OTAs approaching, his return energizes an Eagles squad determined to repeat as Super Bowl champions in the Philly Special Era.
