It’s no secret that Philadelphia Eagles star tight end Dallas Goedert is on the trade block less than a week before the 2025 NFL Draft.
Goedert is seeking a contract extension as he enters the final year of the $57 million deal he signed in 2021. With no more guaranteed money left, and approaching age 30, he understandably wants financial security.
Unfortunately, it’s bad timing. GM Howie Roseman has spent much of the offseason slashing future salary commitments. Goedert and his $11.7 million cap hit could be the next casualty — similar to how the Eagles already moved on from C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Kenny Pickett.
🧠 Proposed Eagles-Giants Trade:
-
Eagles send: Dallas Goedert, a 2025 3rd-round pick (No. 96), and a 2026 5th-round pick
-
Giants send: EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux and a 2025 4th-round pick (No. 105)

Eagles insider Anthony DiBona floated the trade, noting that the Giants may select EDGE Abdul Carter in Round 1, possibly making Kayvon Thibodeaux available.
Philadelphia did their homework on Thibodeaux during the 2022 NFL Draft process, even hosting him for a Top 30 visit. Roseman has a track record of acquiring players he once hosted but didn’t draft, such as:
-
A.J. Brown
-
C.J. Gardner-Johnson
-
Kenyon Green
-
Dorian Thompson-Robinson
While rare, big trades within the NFC East aren’t impossible — especially with so much at stake.
🔥 Why This Makes Sense for Philly
The Eagles currently hold picks 32 and 64, but if they miss out on their top EDGE targets early, this could be a Plan B.
Their EDGE group is thin:
-
Nolan Smith Jr.
-
Jalyx Hunt
-
Azeez Ojulari
-
Maybe Bryce Huff
Despite Thibodeaux not meeting No. 5 overall expectations, he did record 11.5 sacks in 2023. His 2024 performance declined, but the Eagles could believe in their coaching staff to maximize his upside.
