Former Eagles CB Rasul Douglas Happy to Join Cowboys

The Philadelphia Eagles will kick off the 2025 season against the Dallas Cowboys. The matchup is a juicy one as the Eagles will get to raise a Super Bowl banner in front of their biggest rivals.

It also could be one of the biggest matchups in the NFC East as the Cowboys look to rebound from a 7-10 season. But while there are plenty of storylines heading into the game, there could be one developing in the coming weeks.

The Cowboys have plenty of star power heading into next season, but they need some depth in key areas. One of those areas is the cornerback position, and it could lead to a former Eagle packing his bags for Dallas in order to find a job in 2025.

Former Eagles CB Rasul Douglas Could Be Perfect Fit For Cowboys

Eagles News: Rasul Douglas makes list of PFF's highest graded cornerbacks - Bleeding Green Nation

Rasul Douglas won a Super Bowl in Philadelphia, but he’s still looking for work as OTAs begin. Douglas began his career with the Eagles as a third-round pick by the Eagles in the 2017 draft and also spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, and Buffalo Bills, but it was in Green Bay where his career truly took off.

Douglas made 57 total tackles, 13 pass breakups, and five interceptions with a pair of pick-sixes during his first season with the Packers. He backed it up with 85 tackles, 13 pass breakups, and four interceptions the following season, but was traded to the Bills for a third-round pick in the 2024 draft in an offer that Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said was “too good to pass up.”

While the 29-year-old was productive in the second half of the 2023 season with Buffalo, grabbing four interceptions with eight pass defenses and 29 total tackles, he didn’t produce last year, making 58 total tackles and five pass defenses in 15 games.

The tough season has watered down a free-agent campaign where Spotrac projected Douglas to make $11.9 million annually. But he may be waiting for a suitor to get desperate, and that’s where the Cowboys could come running in at the last second.

The Cowboys’ secondary took a massive hit when Jourdan Lewis signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency. While DaRon Bland is slated at cornerback, he dealt with a stress fracture in his foot last season. Trevon Diggs is also expected to start, but his recovery was concerning enough for the team to select East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. in the third round of the draft. Revel, for what it’s worth, is recovering from his own injury after suffering a torn ACL with the Pirates last September.

If you’re counting at home, that’s three Dallas cornerbacks who have been banged up entering OTAs. While the Cowboys could cross their fingers and hope they all recover, they could also sign Douglas as insurance in case one of those players doesn’t turn out. Even then, Douglas could wait the situation out until training camp and sign later in the summer.

Either way, Douglas could be on the Cowboys’ radar and produce an unexpected reunion for the Eagles on opening night.
