Jalen Hurts Surprises His 3rd Grade Teacher With a Heartfelt Birthday Gift

On a day meant to celebrate himself, Jalen Hurts decided to shine the spotlight on someone else.

As the Eagles quarterback turned 27 this week, fans expected the usual — training camp clips, locker room cake, maybe a few celebratory Instagram posts. What they didn’t expect was a story that touched hearts far beyond the football field.

Hurts used his birthday as an opportunity to honor the woman who helped shape him long before he was a star — his third-grade teacher, Ms. Jyrah Campbell.

A gift wrapped in gratitude

According to sources close to the Hurts family, Jalen personally arranged for a surprise package to be delivered to Ms. Campbell’s home in Houston. Inside was:

  • A signed Eagles jersey with a custom message

  • A handwritten thank-you letter, recounting their time together

  • And a framed quote card that read:

“You believed in me before the world ever did.” — J.H.

“It was a total shock,” Ms. Campbell told local media. “I remember him as a focused, respectful boy — but to see who he’s become, and to know he remembers me? That’s the true gift.”

Jalen Hurts sent Jyrah Campbell, a 23-year-old from Huntsville, Ala., a signed cleat as a birthday gift. Campbell has run an Instagram fan page for Hurts since he was a freshman at Alabama in 2017.

More than a quarterback

Hurts has long credited his family and early mentors for instilling the discipline and poise he’s known for today. While he rarely speaks about his childhood publicly, those close to him say Ms. Campbell’s encouragement in the classroom planted something deeper — a belief in who he could become.

“She made me feel seen,” Hurts said in a short video posted to his fan page. “That matters, especially when you’re a quiet kid with big dreams.”

Why this moment matters

In an NFL world often driven by headlines and highlight reels, this gesture reminds fans why Jalen Hurts continues to stand apart. He’s not just leading on Sundays — he’s leading in character, consistency, and gratitude.

The story quickly went viral on Eagles social media, with fans chiming in:

“That’s QB1 behavior, on and off the field.”
“Not just a leader — a legacy.”
“You don’t coach that kind of humility.”
