As the Buffalo Bills continue their strong start to the 2025 season, one area that has sparked concern among fans is the lack of downfield passing. Despite being tied for 21st in the NFL in air yards per completion, Josh Allen isn’t fazed by the criticism.

In response to fans’ concerns about the absence of big plays down the field, Allen was clear: “People can talk about the deep balls all they want, but we’re winning games. We’ll take the shots when they come. Right now, we’re doing our job, and that’s all that matters.”
While Allen acknowledged that the deep ball has been less of a focus, he pointed out that the team is doing exactly what is needed to secure victories. He emphasized that sometimes success isn’t about forcing a deep shot but rather taking what the defense gives them.
Allen also highlighted defensive coverage schemes like “split safety coverages,” which have made it difficult to push the ball downfield. He made it clear that forcing the ball into such coverage typically results in negative outcomes.
Despite the criticisms, Allen’s message is simple: as long as the Bills are winning, the approach is working. Fans may be frustrated by the lack of long passes, but the Bills’ ability to secure victories is ultimately what matters most. The focus remains on executing and doing whatever it takes to win games, with or without the deep ball.
