Justin Simmons Joins Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have landed a major coup, signing safety Justin Simmons to fill the void left by Justin Reid, sources told ESPN. The four-time All-Pro, formerly with the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons, is poised to ignite Chiefs Kingdom in the 2025 season.

Simmons, 31, inked a one-year, $8 million deal, bringing his wealth of experience with 30 career interceptions since 2016. Reid, who joined the New Orleans Saints on a three-year, $31.5 million contract, left a critical gap at safety. “I’m here to win and beat teams like the Chiefs used to face,” Simmons said.

Player Profile: Justin Simmons has forged his path and found his calling

In 16 games with the Falcons in 2024, Simmons recorded 62 tackles, 7 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions, including one against Patrick Mahomes. His deep coverage and play-reading skills promise to elevate the Chiefs’ secondary, which relies on young safeties like Bryan Cook and Jaden Hicks.

Simmons’ journey to Kansas City is steeped in drama. Once a Chiefs rival, he notched 6 interceptions against Mahomes while with the Broncos, vowing to “topple” them. “Now I’m here to help the Chiefs win it all,” he said, marking a striking shift from foe to ally.

The Chiefs, stung by a Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles, needed defensive depth. GM Brett Veach tapped the team’s $12 million cap space to secure Simmons, bolstering a unit led by Nick Bolton and Chris Jones. Coach Andy Reid praised Simmons: “Justin brings smarts and experience. He’s the perfect fit.”

Simmons will compete with Mike Edwards, who returned to the Chiefs on a one-year deal. While Cook and Hicks represent the future, Simmons offers immediate stability. Fans on X erupted: “Simmons in Chiefs Kingdom? We’re Super Bowl-bound!”

The Chiefs are gearing up for their Brazil opener against the Chargers on September 5, 2025. With Simmons, their defense gains a razor-sharp edge, primed for a Super Bowl LX run.

At 31, Simmons remains at his peak. “I’m not done,” he said. “KC’s where I’ll write my next chapter.” This signing sends a clear message: the Chiefs are all-in to reclaim the NFL throne.
