It appears the Atlanta Falcons are keeping Kirk Cousins in limbo, but there’s a strong possibility that his time in Atlanta ends shortly since the NFL Draft has concluded.

Cousins has made it clear he has no interest in spending the upcoming season on the bench, which makes a trade increasingly probable.
While teams like the Cleveland Browns should be seriously considering a move for Cousins, there’s one team that could be a surprise destination: the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers may have their eyes on Aaron Rodgers as a dream option, but he isn’t on their roster — and they need a proven quarterback now. Acquiring Cousins would instantly give them a playoff-caliber starter who could lead them deep into the postseason.

This wouldn’t be the first option for Pittsburgh, but Cousins could serve as a strong Plan B. He’d step in as the immediate starter, giving the Steelers the flexibility to groom a young quarterback selected in the later rounds of the draft.
Let’s be clear — this is a prediction, not a report.
Kirk Cousins’ 2024 Season Recap:
Cousins got off to a strong start in 2024, displaying the poise and production he’s known for. In Week 5, he set a Falcons franchise record with 509 passing yards and four touchdowns in an overtime win over the Buccaneers. He followed that up with another dominant outing in Week 8, tossing four touchdowns and earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

But the momentum didn’t last.
In Week 10, Cousins suffered injuries to his right shoulder and elbow during a game against the Saints. Though he remained on the injury report as “limited,” his play declined, and by Week 16, rookie Michael Penix Jr. had taken over as the starter.
Key Injuries:
-
Week 10 (vs. Saints): Right shoulder and elbow injury
-
Late Season: Continued issues with arm and ankle health, which ultimately led to his benching
To complicate matters, Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million deal with the Falcons in March 2024 — including a no-trade clause. Atlanta’s decision to keep his $10 million roster bonus for 2026 further muddies the waters, especially given Cousins’ desire to start elsewhere in 2025.
All signs are pointing toward a mutual separation — and Pittsburgh might be the perfect place for a fresh start.
