The Green Bay Packers are actively working behind the scenes to resolve their situation with star cornerback Jaire Alexander. While Alexander has been a cornerstone of the Packers’ defense, injuries have significantly limited his availability, with at least 10 missed games in three of the last four seasons. Now, the team is considering a restructured deal — one that would allow Alexander to earn his full salary if he stays healthy, but also protect the team in case his injury troubles continue.
At the same time, Green Bay still has a glaring hole on its defensive line, something they failed to address in the recent NFL Draft. However, a golden opportunity just landed in their lap: the Carolina Panthers released veteran pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney on Thursday morning.

Clowney, once the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, rose to fame in college after a jaw-dropping hit against Michigan that sent a helmet flying. Since then, his NFL career has been solid — though nomadic — as he’s moved between several teams while remaining a reliable presence on the edge.
It’s unclear whether the Packers will make a move, but the fit is obvious, and fans are buzzing about the possibility.
“The Packers are betting big on youth at edge rusher for 2025. Lukas Van Ness is expected to start opposite Rashan Gary, with Kingsley Enagbare, Brenton Cox Jr., Arron Mosby, and rookies Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver all in the rotation,” wrote Zach Kruse.
“There’s room for a veteran. A one-year deal would suit Clowney perfectly. He’s bounced around teams over the past five years but continued to produce.”
Even on a short-term contract, Clowney could bring veteran leadership, toughness, and pass-rushing ability to a unit that needs stability. At 31, he may not be the superstar he was projected to be coming out of college — but for a Packers team looking to make a leap in 2025, he could be the missing piece.
