Raiders Powers-Johnson Blasts Cam Heyward: “I Just Want Another Shot At Him”

Following a fiery joint minicamp session between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers, rookie guard Jackson Powers-Johnson made headlines when he called out All-Pro defensive lineman Cam Heyward, stating flatly:

“I just want another shot at him. That’s all I’ll say.”

The comment came after the two players reportedly exchanged words during a full-team 11-on-11 drill that quickly escalated into one of the most intense moments of the entire minicamp.

A Rookie with No Fear

Powers-Johnson, a 2nd-round pick out of Oregon and one of the top interior offensive linemen in the 2025 NFL Draft, has already built a reputation for physicality and swagger. But taking aim at Cam Heyward — a six-time Pro Bowler and emotional leader of the Steelers defense — is on another level.

Eyewitnesses reported multiple heated exchanges between the two during blocking drills, with Heyward allegedly delivering a few veteran-style “welcome to the league” blows.

Rather than back down, Powers-Johnson clapped back — both on the field and in front of reporters.

“That’s what I came here for,” the rookie said. “You don’t get better by backing away from guys like that.”

Heyward Keeps It Quiet… For Now

Cam Heyward has not publicly commented on the rookie’s remarks, though teammates confirmed that he was “not amused” by the confrontation. One insider described Heyward as “locked in” and “already circling that Raiders game on his calendar.”

Known for his leadership and no-nonsense approach, Heyward has long set the tone for the Steelers defense with toughness and accountability — but he’s also never shied away from making rookies earn their stripes the hard way.

“Cam’s old school. If you chirp at him, expect to be tested,” one Steelers lineman said anonymously.

A Matchup to Watch

The Steelers and Raiders are not division rivals, but they’re set to face off in Week 12 of the 2025 season. And thanks to Powers-Johnson’s comments, that matchup suddenly feels a lot more personal.

  • Powers-Johnson will likely start at right guard.

  • Heyward, if healthy, will line up directly across from him.

This could become a textbook case of rookie fire vs. veteran fury — with pride, reputation, and locker room respect all on the line.

Most rookies try to stay quiet and earn respect over time. Jackson Powers-Johnson has chosen a different route — calling out one of the most respected defensive players in the NFL just weeks into his pro career.

It’s bold. It’s risky. And come Week 12, it could get downright explosive — in all the right ways.
