The Pittsburgh Steelers ended up trading away George Pickens after they went ahead and traded for DK Metcalf earlier on in the offseason. While they ended up doing this to save themselves from having to deal with George Pickens contract extension coming up with him being a free agent after the season, they also ended up putting themselves in a predicament.

That predicament is that they don’t have a serviceable WR2 on the roster and instead are relying on Robert Woods currently in that role. As the Steelers look to enter a new era with what seems to be either Mason Rudolph or Will Howard under center, they need to have as much wide receiver talent as possible for the future of the room.
That has led to the Steelers now looking to make another trade again to acquire a wide receiver this time around, and it can be assumed it will be for a young receiver that won’t be looking for the type of contract that Pickens was.
The ideal wide receiver the Steelers can look to trade for is Jameson Williams.
The #Steelers have had preliminary conversations with multiple teams about potentially adding another playmaker on offense to complement DK Metcalf, per multiple sources. Pittsburgh is believed to be motivated to get a deal done at some point, though there’s still plenty of time… pic.twitter.com/javhtHdGDe

Detroit Lions Trade Jameson Williams to the Pittsburgh Steelers
Jameson Williams hasn’t had the best start to his career on the Detroit Lions as he played in just six games as a rookie after recovering from a torn ACL in his final college season, and then was suspended to start the 2023 season after being investigated for gambling.
Finally, with his first clean season in 2024 with no issues, Jameson Williams broke out by putting up 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns over 59 receptions. This highlighted what Williams could be, but yet with the team having Amon-Ra St. Brown, and many other positions that should be addressed, they could look to allocate that money elsewhere instead of paying Williams.
This leaves the door open for the Lions to end up trading Jameson Williams, and the Pittsburgh Steelers need another deep-threat wide receiver opposite of DK Metcalf. With the speed element that Williams brings, plus being just 24 years old, makes him the ideal wide receiver for the Steelers to target in a trade. In addition, with Williams having a few down seasons to start, the contract that Pittsburgh can re-sign him on won’t be as much as they would’ve had to pay Pickens, making this trade ideal all the way around.
