Steelers Trade $240M QB, Pass on Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in desperate need of a starting quarterback, and while Aaron Rodgers remains an option, there’s no guarantee he’ll actually sign.

If Rodgers doesn’t sign, the Steelers would be left with Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard, none of whom are viable starting options for this coming season.

But perhaps there’s another option the Steelers could explore, and it involves Dallas Cowboys $240 million quarterback, Dak Prescott.

During a recent episode of “The Athletic NFL Football Show,” host Robert Mays said he thinks the Cowboys might be willing to trade Prescott for a mountain of picks, and more specifically, three first-rounders.

“Let’s just say you can get under (the financials), the Cowboys would trade Dak for the right price,” Mays said. “The Dak, Kyler (Murray) range is probably where I land, I think it’s the right answer.

“If you called the Cowboys right now, again, if they traded him after June 1, in theory it would be possible. If you called the Cowboys right now like ‘we’ll give you three (first-round picks) for Dak,’ I think they would do it,” Mays added.

Three first-rounders would be a massive price, but it’s one the Steelers might consider given their precarious situation and desire to compete in 2025.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Prescott would easily be a massive upgrade over anyone the Steelers have in their quarterbacks room now and can add some legitimacy to Pittsburgh’s offense.

Prescott is also under contract through 2028, so he’d be a long-term solution for the Steelers, which would soften the blow of giving up so much to acquire him.

Taking on Prescott’s contract won’t be easy, but the Steelers have a positive financial situation over the next few years, so they’d be able to work it out.

Such a deal would obviously leave the Cowboys in a tough spot under center for the upcoming season, but the team would get itself out from under Prescott’s deal, and Dallas could turn around and sign Rodgers to bridge the gap.
