Frisco, TX – April 16, 2025
Dallas Cowboys may have a locker room issue brewing, as veteran running back Tony Pollard has publicly criticized the team’s front office, accusing them of deliberately delaying contract talks and blocking potential trade opportunities.
In a candid appearance on the “Route Breakers” podcast Sunday night, Pollard didn’t hold back. The former Pro Bowler — entering a contract year after playing on a one-year, $6 million deal in 2024 — voiced frustration with the team’s “lack of clarity” and failure to commit to a long-term plan.
“I’ve done everything this franchise asked of me,” Pollard said.
“But they’ve gone silent. No offer. No trade. Just stalling. You either want me or you don’t.”
Pollard’s home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area was reportedly listed for sale last week, sparking speculation about a potential departure.
📊 Proven Production, Minimal Respect?
Despite splitting carries with Rico Dowdle and later Deuce Vaughn, Pollard still managed:
-
986 rushing yards,
-
9 total touchdowns,
-
4.3 yards per carry in 2024.
He led the NFL in yards after contact per attempt (3.1) during the second half of the season and remained a dependable receiver out of the backfield with 32 catches for 283 yards.
“He’s still one of the most complete backs in football,” said a rival NFC East scout.
“Dallas just seems hesitant to pay him.”

💥 Locker Room Fallout?
Insiders say Mike McCarthy and Pollard have had tension over his inconsistent role and snap counts in 2024. Multiple players have reportedly voiced concern about the team’s treatment of veterans, especially with long-term extensions prioritized for Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb.
If the Cowboys are shopping Pollard, they’ll likely be looking for Day 2 draft capital, with Baltimore and Miami rumored as interested suitors.
🧠 Big Decisions, Bigger Pressure
With Jerry Jones openly declaring 2025 as “Super Bowl or bust,” the Pollard situation adds unnecessary turbulence to an already scrutinized offseason.
“If they’re going all in, locking up a guy like Pollard should’ve been easy,” said one Cowboys reporter.
But so far, all signs point to indecision — and a star RB who feels disrespected.
“I’m not asking for favors. I’m asking for clarity,” Pollard said.
“And if Dallas won’t give it to me, I know there are 31 other teams who might.”
