Travis Kelce Slams Chiefs’ New Nickname “America’s Team”

Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are hungrier than ever following a full offseason of thinking about their Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last season.

Heading into the offseason, there were rumors that Kelce could retire. However, he decided to come back after having a bad taste in his mouth about how last season felt.

In 2025, the Chiefs have a new nickname. Some are starting to call them “America’s Team,” which is a nickname that has long been held by the Dallas Cowboys.

Travis Kelce thinks he could have done better

During a segment on his podcast, “New Heights,” Kelce did not hold back from firing back at the nickname. He is clearly not a fan of it at all.

“So I’m kinda out on just the whole ‘America’s team’ deal. I don’t give a (expletive) about that (expletive). I wanna be the Chiefs, man, that’s who I wanna be. I wanna be the big bad Chiefs, come join if you want. But America’s team? The Boys can have that if they want.”

Kansas City has truly become the most popular team in America. A lot of that popularity has to do with Taylor Swift fans becoming Chiefs fans following her relationship with Kelce going viral. They have also won a lot recently, which brings in all the bandwagon fans.

As for Kelce, he’s simply focused on winning football games, getting back to the Super Bowl, and winning another ring. That is the only thing that matters to him at this stage of his career.

Last season, the 35-year-old tight end showed some signs of regression. Despite those signs, he was still very productive for Kansas City and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

In the 16 games he played throughout the year, Kelce caught 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns. He also chipped in with 13 catches for 175 yards and a touchdown in the three playoff games the team played.

There is a very good chance that the 2025 NFL season could be Kelce’s last. He’s looking to go out with a bang and bring one more Super Bowl home for the Chiefs.

It will be interesting to see if Kansas City and Kelce are able to accomplish their goal. Once again, the Chiefs will be viewed as a Super Bowl favorite to begin the year.
