Tyreek Hill Is Headed to the Steelers

Pittsburgh, PA – April 17, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers have executed a blockbuster trade, acquiring Miami Dolphins superstar Tyreek Hill for a 2025 first-round pick (No. 21) and a 2026 fourth-rounder, sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports Thursday. The move aims to electrify an offense reeling from George Pickens’ trade rumors and a stagnant passing game.

Miami, grappling with a $43.9 million cap hit in Hill’s final contract year, shed his $30 million deal to alleviate their $22 million cap shortfall. GM Omar Khan, managing a $2 million cap, restructured D.K. Metcalf’s $14 million hit to absorb Hill’s $23 million 2025 cap, eyeing a playoff breakthrough.

Hill’s 2024 season was hampered by a wrist injury1,104 yards, 7 touchdowns in 15 games. Yet, his 2023 dominance — 1,799 yards, 13 touchdowns — highlighted his blazing speed. At 31, his 1,215 career catches raise durability concerns, but his 14.4 yards per catch remain elite.

“Hill’s still a game-changer at his peak,” NFL analyst Matt Miller told ESPN.

In contrast, Calvin Austin III’s 2024 output was modest — 148 yards, 1 touchdown. Austin’s deep routes (12.8 yards/catch) lack Hill’s explosiveness, and Roman Wilson’s inexperience leaves gaps. Hill’s 2022 league-leading 1,710 yards fit Arthur Smith’s play-action scheme perfectly.

“Tyreek’s speed unlocks our offense,” Smith said at the Combine.

The Steelers’ 19th-ranked passing game (206.4 yards/game) gets a jolt — Hill’s 8.8 yards after catch could exploit defenses alongside Metcalf’s physicality. Miami now shifts to rookie Malik Washington, prioritizing youth over Hill’s hefty contract.

“This trade signals Super Bowl intent,” ESPN’s Louis Riddick remarked.

Khan’s bold move echoes Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley acquisition — 36 minutes of possession in Super Bowl LIX. With Pickens’ future uncertain, Hill’s versatility — 119 catches in 2023 — offers a lifeline for a new quarterback, whether it’s Mason Rudolph or a draft pick like Shedeur Sanders.

“Hill’s a spark we’ve missed,” Khan told reporters.

The $23 million cap hit strains Pittsburgh’s budget, but Khan’s cap maneuvers — trimming $2 million from Cam Heyward — make it viable. Hill’s 2023 PFF grade of 92.7 towers over Austin’s 80.1, though his age looms. Ravens fans dread the AFC North gauntlet.

“He’ll torch us twice a year,” a Baltimore scout admitted.

With two Ravens matchups ahead, Hill could dismantle their secondary. Steelers Nation, restless after eight playoff-less years, envisions Hill-to-Metcalf fireworks. This trade might just forge Pittsburgh’s path to a seventh Lombardi Trophy.
