Vic Fangio Wants to Add Von Miller to Eagles’ Young EDGE Group for Super Bowl Push

Vic Fangio, the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, is reportedly pushing to bolster the team’s pass rush by targeting veteran free agent Von Miller, aiming to secure a Super Bowl repeat. The defending champions are looking to strengthen their roster as OTAs begin.

The NFL free agent market still boasts notable talents like J.K. Dobbins, Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, Nick Chubb, and Von Miller. With the Eagles needing depth at EDGE rusher, Fangio sees Miller as a key addition to address a critical roster gap.

The Eagles’ EDGE rusher group has become notably young after losing Josh Sweat to the Arizona Cardinals and Brandon Graham to retirement. While Nolan Smith and rookie Jalyx Hunt emerged during last year’s Super Bowl run, Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche may not provide enough stability for 2025.

Fangio, known for his defensive expertise, believes Miller’s experience could elevate the Eagles’ young pass rushers. “Von knows my system and brings veteran leadership,” Fangio told reporters, referencing their time together with the Denver Broncos, where Miller thrived under his coaching.

At 36, Miller is best suited as a situational pass rusher, a role the Eagles already filled with Uche on a one-year, $2 million deal. However, Fangio values Miller’s familiarity with his defensive scheme, having coached him to a Super Bowl title with the Broncos in 2015.

Despite Fangio’s interest, some question the fit, as Miller’s age limits his impact compared to younger options. The Eagles’ cautious approach to free agency this offseason, focusing on low-budget signings, also raises doubts about their willingness to pursue Miller.

Fans on X are divided, with one supporter writing, “Miller with Fangio again? That’s a championship move!” while another cautioned, “We need youth, not another veteran past his prime.” The debate underscores the Eagles’ delicate balance between experience and potential.

As the Eagles prepare for their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on September 4, Fangio’s push for Miller signals a determined effort to fortify the defense, ensuring the Philly Special Era remains a dominant force in their quest for Super Bowl LX.
