Buffalo, NY – September 25, 2025
As the Buffalo Bills prepare for their Week 4 showdown against the undefeated Saints, star edge rusher Von Miller has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of his life — one that still shapes the way he approaches the game and his role in the community.
Miller revealed that his father, Von Miller Sr., raised him largely on his own after a devastating family setback when Von was a teenager. A serious accident forced Von Sr. to leave his job at a power company in DeSoto, Texas. In the months that followed, Von’s mother left the household, leaving Von Sr. to shoulder the responsibility of raising his sons alone.
“My mom left when my dad had that accident,” Miller said. “Since then, my father has been both strict and nurturing. He taught me how to be a man, but also how to be kind. I love him so much.”
Von Sr.’s perseverance became the foundation of Miller’s life. Despite chronic pain and financial strain, he instilled discipline, humility, and resilience in his son. He encouraged Von to pursue both football and track and to treat every practice as an opportunity to improve.

“He gave me the freedom to choose my own path,” Miller recalled. “But he also reminded me to stay humble — to never act like I was bigger than the game.”
Since entering the NFL in 2011, Von Miller has become one of the most decorated defenders of his generation: an eight-time Pro Bowler, a Super Bowl 50 MVP with the Broncos, and a key figure in the Bills’ quest to bring a championship to Buffalo. Yet behind every sack, every milestone, he says, is the influence of his father.
“Everything I do is for him — he gave me everything,” Miller said.
That perspective is driving Miller’s 2025 campaign. After a slow start while easing back from injury, he broke out in Week 3 against the Dolphins with two sacks and a forced fumble to spark a comeback win. Through three games, he’s logged 4.5 sacks, reaffirming his status as Buffalo’s defensive leader.
For Bills fans, Miller’s story adds even more depth to the fire he brings each Sunday. Von Miller Sr. remains a fixture at Highmark Stadium, watching his son honor the sacrifices that shaped their family. As Buffalo enters a pivotal Week 4 clash with Saints, Von Miller is carrying not only the team’s hopes but also the enduring inspiration of a father who never gave up.
