Green Bay, WI – September 5, 2025 — Authorities in Green Bay arrested a Detroit Lions fan on Thursday evening after he allegedly made armed threats toward Packers supporters outside Lambeau Field, just moments before kickoff of the heated Packers vs. Lions Week 1 showdown.
The suspect, identified as Eric Dawson, 35, of Detroit, Michigan, has been charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, carrying a firearm without a license, and disorderly conduct, police confirmed.
According to investigators, the confrontation erupted around 6:15 p.m. in Lot B, where tailgating crowds were already swelling ahead of the primetime NFC North clash. Witnesses reported that the man, dressed head-to-toe in Lions gear, got into a loud verbal dispute with nearby Packers fans before allegedly pulling out a handgun and shouting threats.
Security staff immediately intervened, detaining the suspect until Green Bay police arrived on the scene. Officers recovered a loaded 9mm pistol and two spare magazines from his possession. Thankfully, no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
The area was briefly placed on lockdown as authorities interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage. Within minutes, the situation was deemed safe, and pregame festivities resumed as kickoff approached.
Officials praised the quick response of stadium security and law enforcement. “Our top priority is always the safety of fans,” a Green Bay Police spokesperson said. “Because of immediate action, this incident was resolved without tragedy.”
In response, Lambeau Field tightened entry procedures, requiring enhanced bag checks and additional metal detector scans for all fans entering the stadium. Despite the scare, the highly anticipated Packers vs. Lions rivalry clash proceeded as scheduled.
The disturbing incident underscores the intensity of one of the NFC North’s fiercest rivalries, while serving as a sobering reminder of the need for vigilance on NFL game days.
