Santa Clara, CA – September 7, 2025 — Opening night at Levi’s Stadium turned chaotic when a Seattle Seahawks fan was arrested after allegedly threatening San Francisco 49ers supporters with a firearm just before the 49ers vs. Seahawks Week 1 showdown.
Police identified the suspect as Kyle Anderson, 32, of Seattle, Washington, who now faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a firearm, and disorderly conduct.
The incident erupted around 6:20 p.m. near Red Lot 1, where Niners fans were tailgating hours before kickoff. Witnesses said Anderson, wearing Seahawks gear, began taunting a group of 49ers supporters. The exchange escalated when he allegedly pulled out a handgun and shouted violent threats at the crowd.
Stadium security responded within seconds, subduing the suspect before Santa Clara Police arrived on scene. Officers seized a loaded Glock 19 handgun and extra ammunition from his backpack. Thankfully, no shots were fired and no one was injured.
Authorities briefly locked down the area while questioning witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. The situation was declared safe within 15 minutes, allowing fans to return to their pregame celebrations.
Officials credited the swift intervention of security and law enforcement for preventing what could have been a devastating tragedy. “Our top priority is fan safety,” a Santa Clara Police spokesperson said. “Quick action ensured that this incident was contained without injury.”
In response, Levi’s Stadium enforced enhanced entry screenings with additional metal detectors and bag checks. Despite the alarming episode, the highly anticipated 49ers vs. Seahawks rivalry clash kicked off as scheduled under primetime lights.
The incident underscores the intensity and hostility of the NFC West’s most bitter rivalry, serving as a chilling reminder that emotions can spiral dangerously out of control on NFL game days.
