Fred Warner and the 49ers are set for one final tune-up in their preseason finale against the Chargers on Friday evening.
Fred Warner played limited snaps in San Francisco’s preseason opener, but he sat out last weekend’s contest while backups got extended reps. Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed earlier this week that Fred Warner and the rest of the 49ers’ starters will indeed suit up Friday.
On the other sideline, the Chargers will follow a similar plan, with quarterback Justin Herbert expected to make his second preseason appearance. Herbert threw for 98 yards and a touchdown in his last outing against the Rams.
This will be a valuable test for Herbert and the Chargers’ new-look offense under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh, going up against a San Francisco defense widely regarded as one of the NFL’s toughest units.
